Many naturally talented athletes are comfortable with being "good" and aren't willing or ready to take themselves to another level of athleticism through the hard work and efforts it requires.
Austin Shupp, however, had a dream, a vision, a desire to be the best athlete he could be this year and years ahead. This unique student was willing to believe he could accomplish something more, courageous to attempt it, and persevered through trying times along the way!
One year ago, Austin came to me with the desire to win; to beat his current athletic standings. His ultimate goal to be a district champion. Austin has proven himself to be a determined, dedicated, committed athlete. Austin spent his 2013 summer training with a deep seeded determination to accomplish his personal goals. While many of his fellow competitors were sleeping in, starting at an early 7am, he attended running form and technique twice per week, speed and agility twice a week, strength conditioning twice a week, Olympic weightlifting two to three times per week, and yoga! When his soccer season started, he didn't give up on his goals, he modified the plan but continued training in the gym for improved speed, strength, and power. Through snow, sleet, ice, and opportunities to sleep in, this winter, Austin never backed down from his training! When the pressure of juggling school, sports, training and working got tough, Austin pushed harder.
Austin's success didn't happen by chance, it happened because he created it! He is an outstanding representation of a determined, hard working, successful student athlete!
By the way, not only has he broken multiple league and district records this year, he is now a district and a state champion!
